Clisset High Ladderback Armchair in English Ash with rush seating

Maker : Graham Davies of Worcestershire

The dimensions for this chair were taken from an original chair made by Phillip Clisset (c. 1880 - 1913) of Stanley Hill, Bosbury, Herefordshire. The chair is now in the Ledbury museum and features in Bernard Cottons book "The English Regional Chair".

The back and front legs are 1(3/8)" diameter with plain stretchers (1)" diameter with (5/8)" tenons. The back legs are bent on a continuous curved former whilst the front legs have simple turned heads above the seat level. The seat rails are shaped from 1(1/2)"x1" ash with (5/8)" tenons. Rush is used for the seating although artificial rush cord or seagrass would be suitable alternatives.

A quarter size scale drawing of this chair is available from Ashem Crafts. Please send a self addressed stamped envelope along with a cheque or postal order for £4.00 A full size drawing of a Clisset Rocking chair is also available from Ashem Crafts at a cost of £8.95. Post and packing is extra.
